TC Computers has an advantage pack with case, 450 mh processor & BX6. Evidently whatever other components you order, they'll put into the case for you & that sounded doable for me BUT that board has only 4 slots.

I looked at the TC site and did not see the specific machine you are talking about. (too bad they have one of those %&$^@*! frame sites that you cannot link to specific pages).

They sell custom machines..they list the ABIT BH6 (I did not see the Celeron 300A). Why not just email them and tell them you want the BH6 and the 300A in lieu of the BX6?

How soon do you need the machine? If you have time get on a list at Minotaur. You can customize just about anything with Jon.

Mushkin may still have the ABIT BH6 300A combo in stock. They do not indicate it is out of stock on their web page. If they have it they probably won't for long.

You will not find a step by step procedure for building a specific complete machine. There are too many hardware combinations.

Anand's how to build it guide parts 1 and 2 206.132.42.114

Download the ABIT BH6 mobo manual abit-usa.com
It is written for the layman. It is among the best mobo manuals.

Putting a machine together is not all that difficult. Mount the mobo to the case, plug in an IDE harddrive or two<g>, IDE CDROM a video card some RAM a floppy and a cpu and then turn it on. Most bios items are auto configured. The ABIT manual will go into a lot of detail here.

The software load is probably the most difficult. Win98 will find most hardware..stick with main stream components for example Matrox video cards.

I am not suggesting you put it together yourself..just presenting it as an option. The ABIT BH6 options are fewer everyday.

"won't there be something better by the time I am able to use the extra one I'm thinking of buying?"

Depends on the time frame. You certainly raise a valid point. I bought the two extra BH6 combos because my wife needs a machine ASAP, and I currently have no backup machine, having just sold my homebrew Cyrix 200. So I had a need for 2 machines now. It is because of reasoning similar to yours that I didn't buy even more.

I do think that one is unlikely to do better than the bh6/300a combo for at least the next quarter or two. Moreover, it will surely be adequate for most users well beyond 2000. Given the price, one could hardly go wrong taking the bait if one's time frame is near-mid term on an additional machine.
