You know, this is actually very astute, and I see history repeating itself a bit here.

In the early eighties when CKFR was getting off the ground, Pete decided it was impossible to go to the banks one by one and establish a relationship. Instead, he went right to the head of the well, the ACH system, thus bypassing the banks. He knew if he went with the banks, he'd be screwed.

Then, in the early nineties, CKFR went into a joint venture with MasterCard, called MasterBanking (spare us the obvious jokes, please). The foundation of the agreement was the takeover of Chemical Bank's bill payment system, by then in use on Prodigy and several other banks. MasterBanking was a disaster. He went with the banks, and got screwed.

(Pete was as graceful a loser as he is a winner. When the MasterBanking conversion took longer than plan, he took a swim in this green pea soup of a pond in front of the Columbus campus in front of all of his employees. Something about a lost bet.)

Now, the banks are up to their same old tricks. We don't need the steeenking banks Pete! Do like TL says and grab us a pile o' portals and lets get this thing going! Let the banks catch up later!
