Arthur:

Did you run the FAT 32 program that is included in windows 98. It allows for a more efficient way of storing information (not a compression device).

arthur -
2 areas that you may want to look at for a quick pickup in 'C:' space - the 'temp' directory under 'windows' and your storage of temporary internet files.

The windows/temp directory holds a variety of files, mostly stuff created by the system during normal operations. This area can gradually build up to 10's of megabytes. I have found it a pretty safe practice to delete anything in windows/temp which is older than a week or so.

If you are using IE4 as a browser, getting rid of the temporary internet files is also simple. Open the control panel, select the internet icon, and on the 'general' tab, in the 'temporary internet files' box, select 'delete files'. You may also want to click on the 'settings' button and set the size allocated for temporary files to the minimum to avoid buildup in the future.
