By not using proprietary stored procedures, and using dynamic SQL (this by the way, is only half right), PSFT allows itself to be DBMS independent. One set of application code, can support multiple DB backends.

There are a couple of issues to note though. Ever software vendor trades platform independence with speed of execution, and the ability to maintain/enhance the application in an efficient manner. PSFT has opted to err on the side of independence and maintainability. So, the product runs a little slower than if it were optimized for each DBMS. The upside is that it is portable.

PSFT most certainly uses a client/server architecture. To say otherwise is wrong. In their latest releases they are moving some functionality onto a thin client (browser based client) utilizing a three-tier communications architecture.

PSFT will prosper in the coming months. Education, consulting and software sales will be much better than folks think. Look for a suitor to continue to see the current valuation as a bargain. The market cap right now makes PSFT a takeover candidate.
