Unlike gold high cost oil production is starting to shut down in many places. And big OPEC producers probably will cut further before long. The bottom line -- many oil companies and national producers are financially strong enough to cut production when prices are depressed. Wish I could say the same for gold.

Too, big drops in capital spending virtually assure still lower production a year or two down the road. As one energy expert has said -- “today's low prices contain the seed of the mother of all energy shocks.”

Another reason why I like black gold better than the yellow stuff (although the yellow certainly looks good at these prices).
