Kash, Re: "Last quarter expectations are for market size of 33M CPU's with Intel at 28M and
AMD at 5.5M."

That leaves Cyrix/NSM, IDT and Rise with minus 0.5M. What a way for Rise to start!

kash,

Re: market share

There is a point regarding market share that I have tried to make several times but few seem to understand. I will try again.

Market share can be expressed in terms of units (volume), revenue (dollars), or profit (dollars). Intel still enjoys nearly 100% of market share when expressed in terms of profit share. In other words, there are X number of dollars to be made in the desktop CPU business where AMD, Cyrix, etc. and Intel compete. Right now, Intel is getting nearly 100% of X. This is the market share that investors should concern themselves with.

Any competitor can gain volume share (and possibly revenue share) if they are willing to sell at the right price. This has been AMD's strategy and this is what has contributed to AMD's rapid financial deterioration over the last 3 years. This is also why S&P lowered their credit rating last year.
