I was only partly joking, myself. Joyful irreverance is a needed balance to the serious tone that deep reverance brings. I've no interest in a God who lacks a sense of humor.

I agree with your assessment. And that Mother Teresa would echo, if you think so. I don't know much about her.

I did a wonderful whirlwind tour of Catholic churches in S.F once, curtesy of a former Catholic become pagan who still had a great fondness for the Church. There's a terrific one out by the sea, Our Lady of the... something.. probably Sea. It had a domed center with a painting of Mary rising from the waves. I like the lighting of candles in the little alcoves. Gave me chills. Lots of talking going on and not just by the people present. A Father spoke with us in the Sea one. I was looking my usually scraggly, counter-culture (a term used by others) self, but it was as welcome as I've ever felt in a christian church. He was a very decent man.

P.S. wow, it never occured to me my little joke would sound like I was offended. I'm a bad tease, sometimes. My apologies. Unless someone is trying to curse me to hell, or some such, I take no offence to anyone's expression of faith.
