Wiley, it depends on what I am looking for. If it is a day or position trade, you are correct .... I look at volume, news and momentum and then back it up with the chart and TA. If I am looking for an intermediate to long term hold, I use the chart and TA first to identify those canididates that have bottomed or a breaking out. I do strongly believe in the pyschological factor and am getting to where I can almost feel the market's strength and weakness points.

Actually, the markets and individual issues do not care one way or the other who wins, and who loses .... but as the markets get more heavily traded, they are traded by humans which are by default psychological in nature .... once we can shed that, then we have something. The one variable in all of this are the MMs, who are not human and who are cold blooded. Figure them out, then you REALLY have something.
