OT.
Thread,

It looks as if Lucent will buy Ascend this week, as reported in the London Times (See the Ascend thread). This should be good for all tech stocks this week.

RE:"PS. If anyone has any experience or references to Social Security
and health care issues as they apply to early retirement, please
post them."...

You either get on the wifes plan or pay your own way.

Men are identified with, and identify themselves with, what they do. It's tough to go from a structured, challenging engineering environment to the chaos of home life. I'm trying to find a middle ground.

I would think that being successful in your investments would be a good self-identity for any man or woman who put in the time and energy to achieve that success.

Chaos of home life? Home life is peaceful. Job life is chaotic. If you have small children, and are considering retirement, congratulations, you do have a unique problem. Build a home office and keep office hours.

I will defer on the SSA and insurance problems.

Len,
I actually enjoyed going from the 'all night chaos' of fixing operating system problems to trading from home!! Tried it for two years while working part time evenings, then chucked my career altogether and have not looked back. So far so good.

Best regards,
John

PS - It's funny, I was at my dentist's not long ago, and put down something like 'investor' for what I do on the forms one has to fill out. When the secretary saw that, she told me she is a member of an investment club and could I speak to them sometime! The whole office just *stopped* and they started listening to my spiel on trading/investing. Can this be other than a classic signal of a market top?? <ggg>
