I think LU's size gives them a little flexibility when it comes to time. I doubt LU is sweating the Nortel deal too much.

As far as the price difference between Bay and Ascend, well, just because one thing is less expensive as another doesn't mean it's a better deal. I'm sure Lucent has done A LOT of DD on this deal; they're not going to get ripped off.

Ken, As far as I know -- Ascend makes Core Network switches (ATM-"big pipe switches"!), at the old Cascade Communications facility.
I believe that Bay does NOT really compete with Ascend in that area.
So, NT really did NOT get a jump on LU in that area.

In fact, Ascend has become a winner ,in their selected field, by NOT competing with Bay's products.
