why K7 or K8 would not adopt the 128 bit data bus and path as per
Alpha cpu ?


A 128 bit external bus is very expensive to manufacture. The performance benefit would probably be minimal (for single processor applications) because the onboard/backside L2 minimizes bus bandwidth requirements.

The Cyrix MXi has a 128 bit bus, because the onboard graphics need the bandwidth.
