Let's get to a much more important iMac question--will Imation make their SuperDisk Drives in matching iMac colors? You can't buy a tangerine iMac and get a green SuperDisk Drive. Will other peripheral makers join in on the color bandwagaon?

"Make sure all the little children are happy and waiting by the door before Daddy gets home."*

>Macintouch noted a couple days ago that retailers will be required to order these iMacs in sets of five--one of each color. Soup, or others, can you confirm this?

Confirmed. AAPL asks retailers to place an order of 40 units -- 5 of each color. IMO, I don't think it's too much of a problem. This lineup should be good for a few months -- by which time AAPL will have a better sense of demand and be able to adjust color production towards people's tastes.

If I was a vendor, I'd just do things in the white frost color and be done with it.

>Interesting strategy. Create a new product that is less desirable then your old product so that you can be sure there is a demand for the product you aren't making anymore and are basically all sold out of.<

I'll mostly defer to Norm on this rebuttal except this: At what point is it appropriate for computer maker to stop bundling/charging for older equipment when better technology is out there?

3 1/2" floppy drives were built into the first Mac in 1984. And Apple was criticized for not using 5 1/4 drive! How about a cassette drive? The truth is nobody's *making* floppy disks anymore because nobody's buying them.

There will be enough early adopters to buy these things as is until the newer peripherals on the market.

And BTW ... SCSI SUCKS!

Yes, its fast, but it's way too finicky and the cables are expensive.

*This is the metaphor I would use to explain to novice users to make sure they understood to plug in and turn on their SCSI devices before booting their systems so they wouldn't crash or damage their CPUs.

Watching Jobs hot-plug that FireWire camera over and over had me rolling on the floor.

Hi all new to this thread. I purchased an iMac the other day, I had talked to the Apple Store on Friday and the sales person has told me that all of the new iMac colors were on backorder, at least 3 weeks to get one. The new G3's as well. One thing that he did share with me was that they had sold over 1700 iMac in the Lime (least popular color) that day alone and the backorders on it were above 200 at that time (5PM EST). He was quite astonished at how fast they were going out the door and he had never seen anything like it. I did get a rev. B at Best Buy for $999 and I am quite impressed.
