Hi guys. yeah, it's Telluride.

What I heard was that when the miners used to have to go there they came up with the song like where you goin'?

The reply was "to-hell-you-ride......" merely because the passes and trails used to access the place were the death of many of them due to the brutality of the wilderness and geography.

Even in this day of roads and cars, I can understand where they were coming from.

The one time I was there, back in '87 the drive from Durango onward was very tricky. It was summer(the harmonic convergance thing and all) but raining hard. the roads were a constant winding around every ridge, and many of those turns would throw us into a mud slide in the road(not to mention dodging all the dead deer).

I was driving my '70 VW bus, and ole bessy, being from the best coast almost couldn't take the thin air. And VW's aren't known for steep inclinations either.

Anyhow, it was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been likewise. One day i hope to return there for the skiing season.

BTW, I think Red Rocks may be the most beautiful Amphitheater in this country.

Can't agree with you more about the beauty of Colorado. Didn't get there until relatively late in life.. had a job to do in Golden, the first time I flew out the Front range was shrouded in clouds and I didn't see anything. The next time, it was like I was hit over the head with the end of a rainbow! Instead of flying back east right away, rented a car and drove to Estes Park, spent a day horseback riding through the park, drove over the divide and back to Denver via 70. Several other stops since, Keystone, etc.
Last spring, did stop in Durango, and loved it. The train wasn't running - too snowy.
I lived in Switzerland for a year, had a little chalet up in the mountains near Gstadd (sp?) with no heat (lots of wine). It was beautiful -- but Colorado, incomparable!
