hiya protius...you may find this interesting, you may not...oh, this is way off topic...those of you who take this stuff exceeding seriously and have no time for drivel, please pass this one by...bye...

anyway protius...i live in hatteras, n.c. the gulfstream passes very close to land here, approximately 14 miles offshore from the point at cape hatteras...there are also shallow waters, relatively speaking, inshore...during the second world war, the german submarines used to patrol here, sinking merchant vessels as they funneled through here either coastal u.s., or plying up from the gulf of mexico on their way to europe...the year, 1942, i believe, there was a vessel named "proteus" sunk out here...she lies on the bottom approximately 25 miles due south of hatteras inlet...as a matter of fact i was directly over top of her this very day with my charter...fact...check it out if interested...seeya...
