[ppi] up 1 full point Not quite that bad really:

From TheStreet.com:

The PPI rose 0.4% in December and the core PPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose 1.0%. Economists surveyed by Reuters had forecast a 0.2% rise in the overall PPI and a 0.6% rise in the core measure. Both increases were the largest in at least a year.

As expected, a sharp rise in tobacco prices related to the recent industry settlement boosted the PPI. Cigarette prices soared 30.7%. If not for that, the core PPI would have dropped 0.1%, the Labor Department said.

Plus, the only reason we know this tonight is the jerks at the bureau released the data a day early by mistake - again.
