You have exposed yourself as the Un-Math major. So let me explain this to you Mr. Liberal arts. It is only in arithmetic where a number is a number and only that. So, if I were an expert in arithmetic, I might agree with you that in absolute terms, there were more popular votes in November for Republicans than Dems.

However, I was a statistics major and as such I had to take a lot of physics etc. Therefore, I understand that certain momentous events can affect the outcome beyond just the numbers. For example, when you lose in California so miserably, and California is the largest state in terms of representatives, AND it is growing such that 6 more are going to be added in 2000 and the person presiding over the redistricting is the first dem governor in 20 years, well, thats coming up on the wrong side of the equation buddy.

BTW did you hear the piece on Marketplace last night - California, what went wrong for the republicans? Where the people interviewed said republicans in California are either old curmudgeons out of touch with the real world, or young nutcase religious zealots? (snicker)
