You're scary. Dan's got it. Ammo needs a little tuning. To go to a movie takes action. That's more "loafing about". The couch, beer, and football on the tube.. that's idly. If he keeps the six-pack by the couch, even better. Those trips to the kitchen are killers.

Cleaning out the attic? If that's what you do when you loaf, unh, what it is you do when you work like a mule?

<"No." Dan opens his eyes. "I want to watch football. I want to drink beer. I want to eat chips and burp and scratch myself in the recliner.">

Of course, had I said something like taht, my wife would respond "So what makes this different from any other Saturday?"

this is a category in and of itself?

I have always sort of quietly wondered what "in and of itself" means. Only I never asked out of fear of seeming ignorant around my betters. I do not know what's changed (I think perhaps as you get older you stop worrying so much about appearing ignorant). But in any case, how is "in itself" different from "of itself"? Does that mean the same thing as "by itself"? What is the opposite of "in and of itself"? "Out and of itself"?
