That's exactly what Popular Electronics touted it as a few years ago. Network your computer, TV, stereo and video camera to various appliances in the house.

Apple will be the first manufacture a computer with Firewire standard. It's going to be
interesting to see what happens as a result in the Windoze world.

Actually, Apple will be the second (or third) to manufacturer a computer with Firewire standard. Sony has a lap top (Vaio?) with a Firewire port.

Still, pretty cool. It may not have the bandwidth of Ultra10 Doublewide SCSI-7, but it has more than double the bandwidth of the fastest currently shipping drive. Now, if the price of Firewire drivers is closer to the IDE end than the SCSI end of the spectrum, I'll be real happy.
