<<if website can set up advertising banners that are personalized to the type of computer the end-user is using? >>

Banners - no

Website - yes using cookies, java applets, etc.

Banner is just a jpeg or gif image. Animated ones are a string of Gifs linked together in one graphics file. That's like saying, "Can my canned chicken soup label tell if I have a cold and respond?" The answer. Not yet.

Sure -- all you have to do is check the browser version -- which will indicate whether it's for windows/mac/unix. Then the web server can decide what ad to send out.

I don't know if BigCharts is doing this, but I would suspect so.

Sorry,

David

**OT Andrew- the browser and OS are sent in the HTTP request for web pages.

One could write a CGI (server side) script to kick in whatever you want, or it is trivial (one command) to do it in javascript.

My personal website used to put Microsoft users in a really nasty loop that you had to crash your browser to get out of, until Steve said Bill was "an ok dude."
