Nichia is shipping pre-production blue lasers for DVD, reconfirming their technology leadership in GaN optoelectronics.

I don't know of anybody else who is within a year of this milestone, or frankly, two years.

On the LED side, Nichia has the best product and owns the high end. Cree's stated goal is the be the low cost producer of a $0.10 product. How this merits a PE approaching 100, and PS above 12, I don't know. If their name were Cree.com, I would.

I continue to think that this very good company is overvalued at present prices by about a factor of two. I hope they can continue to meet expectations, or else a precipitous fall in the stock price which will make yesterday look like nothing, is in the works.

Let's see what they say today...
