your points are well-taken. If you search this thread you can see MSFT's CFO's response to that article. He said that it was accounted for as an increase in equity. He also said that if the put warrants should be exercised MSFT would simply issue new shares ... mostly he talked about the success of the program, of course. I'll try and find the link for you.

And while MSFT is using the precious shareholders' cash to buy back shares, Gates & Allen are dumping as fast as they can. Hmmmm . . .
