PeopleSoft Delivers The Industry's First Comprehensive Analytic Solution; PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management Now Generally Available

PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 1999--

PeopleSoft Certifies Acta Technology, Ardent Software, Informatica Corporation and Prism Solutions as PeopleSoft

Enterprise Warehouse Solution Partners

Designed to increase the value of organizations by enabling people to make better business decisions, PeopleSoft, Inc. today announced general availability of PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), a comprehensive integrated suite of analytic business applications.

With this announcement, PeopleSoft becomes the first enterprise application software provider to deliver a comprehensive suite of analytic applications to all industries. In addition, PeopleSoft announced the certification of Acta Technology, Inc., Ardent Software, Informatica Corporation and Prism Solutions as PeopleSoft Enterprise Warehouse solution partners.

PeopleSoft introduced the enterprise software industry to analytic applications in 1997, with the announcement of PeopleSoft Performance Measurement, developed in conjunction with KPMG LLP and leading business thinkers Robin Cooper and Robert Kaplan. In 1998, PeopleSoft teamed with Andersen Consulting to co-develop a suite of profitability management solutions for financial service organizations. Since these introductions, and based on customer feedback, PeopleSoft has significantly expanded its commitment to delivering a broad suite of analytic applications that solve business problems. Available today, PeopleSoft EPM enables users to make better strategic business decisions by bringing together operational and financial information, in order to increase customer satisfaction, optimize return on investments, effectively manage risk, maximize profitability, and reduce organizational costs.

PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management

Targeted at job functions that include CEOs, CFOs, COOs, executive managers, line managers and line-of-business analysts, PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management has been designed to enhance an enterprise's ability to enter new markets, increase revenue and grow shareholder value. Key components generally available today in PeopleSoft EPM include PeopleSoft Analytic Applications and the PeopleSoft Enterprise Warehouse. These components combine to deliver the following functionality:

sources through extract, transform and load technologies

-- On-Line Analytical Processing and Reporting

-- Strategic cost management

-- Profitability analysis by customer, channel and product

-- Key performance indicators reporting

-- Cost of capital allocations

-- Cost to serve analysis *T -0-

In addition, PeopleSoft EPM will include a series of PeopleSoft Workbenches, the PeopleSoft Balanced Scorecard, and additional analytical applications. These components will be generally available before year-end.

PeopleSoft Analytic Applications. These rules-based applications are the first of their type to transform data from enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and external sources, stored in the Enterprise Warehouse, into strategic management reporting. Customer or product profitability, planning and simulation and customer acquisition and retention, are examples of this strategic management reporting. Analytic applications available today include Activity Based Management, Funds Transfer Pricing and Risk Weighted Capital.

PeopleSoft Enterprise Warehouse. The main repository of enterprise information, the PeopleSoft Enterprise Warehouse draws from PeopleSoft applications as well as other ERP and legacy systems to stage, store and make information available for analysis. The PeopleSoft Enterprise Warehouse, which offers a choice of relational database technology, serves as the platform for PeopleSoft Analytic Applications.

PeopleSoft's EPM solution has been developed as a full business solution, which begins with the accumulation of data from multiple sources into the PeopleSoft Enterprise Warehouse. This accumulation is managed via extract, transform and load (ETL) technology. PeopleSoft has certified Acta, Ardent, Informatica and Prism as new partners to provide the capabilities to efficiently transfer data from many sources, including legacy systems, datamarts and ERP systems.

"By partnering with Acta, Ardent, Informatica and Prism, PeopleSoft gives its customers a choice of technologies to facilitate data migration and populate the PeopleSoft Enterprise Warehouse quickly and efficiently," said Mark Nittler, vice president of applications for PeopleSoft. "This addresses the critical factors of data availability, quality, and integrity, to ensure our customers have the right information to make effective business decisions."

The PeopleSoft Enterprise Warehouse and PeopleSoft Analytic Applications have been built with PeopleSoft's application development technology, PeopleTools. By using PeopleTools, the PeopleSoft EPM solution immediately takes advantage of proven functionality like PeopleSoft Trees for data management and PeopleSoft Cube Manager for multidimensional OLAP reporting.
