Record Revenue Attributed to Increase in Corporate Sales;

Success of Norton SystemWorks
CUPERTINO, Calif., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced record revenue of $165 million for the third quarter of fiscal 1999, ended January 1, 1999. Net income before one-time charges was $23.8 million, compared to $21.8 million in the third quarter of fiscal 1998. Net income, after one-time charges of approximately $7.6 million related to Symantec's acquisition of Quarterdeck, was $16.2 million. Earnings per share before one-time charges were $0.42, up from $0.37 in the third quarter of fiscal 1998.

"The company is very pleased to report these results to our shareholders," said Gordon Eubanks, president and CEO of Symantec. "We had solid sales increases in both the retail and corporate sectors, with substantial growth coming from Europe. These increases, along with our success transitioning IBM and competitors' customers to Norton AntiVirus, all contributed to this record quarter."
