Bob >>Sound likes desperation time at Imation!<<
They're doing the only thing that they can,
It's a Suicide Run, if you can't sell em you might as
well give em away.
My guess is that they've got a boatload of drives
and the only way they'll turn is at bargain prices,
they can't keep warehousing them. It's evident that
no one's buying volumes of them, all anyone has to do is
visit any major retailer to realize their market share.
When I see a $49.00 Ls-120 advertised I
keep in mind that every one involved in the distribution,
the retailer, the shipper and the manufacturer are making
money from these drives, Imation's paying the bill.
At one point I was concerned with Imation, they had sold
one of their divisions, ( I believe to Kodak ) and had a pile
of cash which they promptly applied to their debts. This
was a telling sigh of their position in the drive business.
They weren't ramping for expansion but applied their
cash to the best investment that they could, their debt.
Imation really wasn't the innovator, they're not the
developer the Ls-120 but instead a media company that
ended up with the Ls-120 because the company that was
making them went bankrupt ( O.R Technologies ),it makes
sense that they would be stalling in this fast moving
