<<Don't underestimate Chambers, when it comes to adapting his sales tactics/strategies to a market. That is perhaps his biggest asset.>>

He's been selling umbrellas in a rainstorm. Most tactics work under those conditions. We'll see how good he really is in the next 2-3 years. Will routers become like hubs, a commodity? And if CSCO continues to hew to the Active Directory strategy and doesn't embrace NDS, they are going to become an island in a sea of NDS enabled equipment sharing a common directory structure and services from the core to the edge.

I find the rumor regarding CSCO and CIEN interesting, because LU has major DWDM technology, and some ASND equipment already trunks directly to fiber. The optical networking acumen of LU/ASND is very good already, with huge plans to come. LU buys Juniper for routers and the puzzle is complete. Quite frankly, I see LUs voice experience (compared to CSCOs lack of the same) as a competitive advantage when trying to solve the complex problem of providing packetized voice that truly matches the quality and reliablility of circuit switched.

I agree with Mr. Fun regarding LU's sales force. I have dealt with them, they are good. I see no competitive advantage for CSCO in the area of sales force or sales tactics.
