<< What the people need, even the ones who are too ignorant and partisan to realize it, is a nation in which even the highest official of the land cannot violate the law with impunity. >>

"too ignorant ... to realize". Nice phrase. Do you start off all conversations with insults? Is this the best way you have for expressing your point of view?

"violate the law with impunity". Another catchy phrase! Nice going. It really sounds good. That is, it sounds good until we take a good look at it. Starr spent $40+ million going over Clinton's life with a fine tooth comb. All he found after 6 years was about sex. Equating Clinton's sex lies with "violate the law with impunity" is being disingenuous on your part. But, OTOH, it sounded real good! <g>

<< That is a criminal offense that at least requires that he be tried. >>

I agree. But, since the charges against Clinton, even if all are true, do not rise to the level of impeachment, then the threat of trial should remain until he gets out of office.

<< It seems that you are too narrow-minded to recognize this ... >>

Thanks for pointing this out to me. I love you too. <g>

<< ... but you really wouldn't want to live in a nation in which elected officials are above the law. >>

Of course not. But there are all kinds of laws and levels of laws. Would you want to live in a country where elected officials jaywalked and got away with it?

<< China and North Korea spring to mind. >>

You left out Cuba, Iraq, Iran, Afganistan and the Republican Party Headquarters. <g>

I forget, which one's supposed to be the party of religious fanatics? I would think it must be the one that's all hung up on sin.

Yes, of course. It is the Repubs who talk endlessly about the "moral decline of America", both on their own as well as via their spokesmen like Bennett, Limbaugh et. al.

They were hung up on sin, and now they are being hoisted by their own petard.
