MeDroogies, I think you've carried this error regarding AMD forward from another post but I'll respond to you. AMD doesn't make computers, they make processors. Regarding $500 computers, eMachines, a joint venture between two established Korean companies is releasing their product line this qtr. Here is a link to their company:

e4me.com

The computers will start at $399 and range to $599, add $100 for a 14" monitor. They use Cyrix and Intel processors. They come internet ready using NEtcom as the default ISP. The machines are relatively stylish beige boxes but eMachine stated in Sep-Oct that they intended to release a machine with strong industrial design like the iMac in the first half this year.

Regarding Windows emulators on Apple. I'd suggest you look at MacWorld Feb issue, the article "Windows 98 Emulators, still a Sluggish Proposition" Business Winstone marks indicate results less than 1/5 of a low end PC.

You've been implying that Apple was going to either acquire someone, be acquired or merge - I'm not sure which since your kind of vague. Any substance behind this or just your gut instinct? Would that be the same instinct that caused you to believe the street would view earnings positively? Now you mention an SGI merger. I'm curious, are you familar with SGI? While a discussion of the merits of an SGI merger are interesting - facts rather than suppositon might make it a bit more informed. Rich
