X,
After Jesus ascended to heaven the christians were persecuted by the Jews. There are many references in the bible about christians including Paul hiding and fleeing the jews. The plots by a group of jews who took an oath to kill Paul is spelled out. Many attempts were made on Paul's life, he was even stoned by them but was not killed. Steven was stoned and killed. You do not understand the reason for this so let me explain. According to the jews who did not accept Jesus the preaching by the christians about Jesus was blasphemy. So they were supposed to, according to the law, stone the blasphemer to death. Stories were circulated to discredit Jesus and a conspiracy arose among the Jews to institutionalize the discrediting of Jesus and it became enshrined in the Jewish religion after that. This institutionalized rejection of Jesus has been passed down generation to generation and succeeding generations have used their resources to promulgate the discrediting of Jesus as far as their influence would reach. As this reach has grown so has the enmity against Jesus in society. People that don't even know what is going on now pick up the same mantra and unwittingly help.

Look at it as two cultures that split from one previous culture. The one split culture embraced Jesus and became christianity. The other split culture rejected Jesus and embraced that rejection making it as much a part of their culture as the christians did in embracing Jesus. These two cultures have warred down the ages back and forth and still war today. The anti-Jesus culture has risen to pre-eminence and power and has overshadowed the christian culture. And the masses don't even know this anti-Jesus culture exists. Yet it's influence is felt everywhere and negative feeling about christians and christianity keep building and growing in general. But few can really put their finger on the source of those feelings of negativity. They are subtly planted in the general culture. The anti-Jesus feeling they have carried so long and are now expanding will keep growing.

Speilberg's movie company Dream Works makes a popular animated cartoon glorifying Moses a revered Jewish figure. It's a fact that christians are made to look like nuts or hypocrites by hollywood and on TV. It goes on and on. The news never depicts christians in a positive light although such a large part of the population are christians. Their has been a concerted effort to push christianity out of our american culture that has been raging since the 60's. We had to form legal defense foundations and go to court to keep any of our rights at all. And it's not over.
