i usually lurk... but i have a question for the thread... I am not an expert on the technology, so please excuse me if i have the fundamental issues confused, but from what i read here it seems that AMD will compete with the K7 without needing to go to a .18 process till about 1Ghz while intel will have to go to .18 process to get to the 1Ghz speed using the PII/PIII platform... is this accurate?

second - what is the cost assoc with going from a .25 process to a .18 process... and can amd afford to do that without a lot of capital expenditure..??

TIA

Pravin - Re: 'The point is that adopting 133 Mhz SDRAM provides an easy migration path to 133 Mhz DDR SDRAM. OEMs are going to like this. "

Why?

They will have to UPGRADE their MOTHERBOARDS TWICE - first with new chip sets that support PC133/Socket 7.

Second, with new Chip Sets that support DDR/PC133/Socket 7.

Why not just adopt the RAMBUS/Camino Chip set combination ONCE !

Intel's strategy is much simpler, cleaner, and coming SOON to a store near you.
