I like to ice fish for Jumbo Perch. Up here in Northern Alberta most of the lakes are only accessible when the muskeg freezes. A 4X4 is also required. The Jumbos can get up to 2 1/2 lbs. Usually when you hit a school of them they usually run the same size. It is great when you catch 30 plus running from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 lbs. They can however turn off and you would not get a bite all day long.

Personnally I prefer fresh perch over walleye for the table. I usually
only keep a small amount for dinner.

Spring is my favorite time for ice fishing. I have been on the ice 3 feet thick when it was +18 C This prime time is limited as the roads don't last long. Usually the roads go out before the ice becomes unsafe.
