Boy, after reading that article, if I owned either a freight company, a company that produced applications that improved order entry / shipment tracking / or inventory management, or if it was a company that specialized in after sales services, I would be jumping for joy. What an opportunity these businesses have right now!

Any on-line retailer that wants to survive and flourish will do whatever they can, and link up with whoever the can to help them get through this. This can be a perfect opportunity for the smaller on-line companies to celebrate their service record. They have just been given an opportunity to distinguish themselves through offering a competitive advantage. "Our delivery rate is . . ., What's their's?"

I disagree with the premise that people will be permanently turned off from shopping on-line. In my opinion, the researcher is viewing the world from a bricks and mortar point of view. Ya, someone pissed me off in that store and I won't go back in there. It doesn't mean that I won't go back into a store. This industry is just getting going, and we will see several companies stumble. It is to be expected given the huge and exponential growth that has taken place.

The companies who get it right, and improve as they grow will survive and flourish.

Well they built it & the people came & came & came .. they'll keep coming & coming & coming .. this is still just new for most. The fact that the entire system didn't blow up over Christmas speaks well for something that is this new & this big. You gotta know more will be better prepared next Christmas.
