To expand on one of the points we seem to be in agreement on, concerning the potential that lies within other vendors' growing IP capabilities, see Ken Phillipps' timely post, at least for the sake of this discussion, at:

Aside from the obvious, this release should place a renewed emphasis on the need for CSCO to align itself, or more likely acquire [given their predisposition] a competent optical networking company.

Pardon me for butting in, but both LU and CSCO are located on coasts - does that make a difference?
