There is no logic in SGI and Apple merging at this point. 3 years ago, maybe. Not anymore.

The Mac OS X strategy and SGI's strategy of going NT do not synch. Also, the company cultures will never mix. Each thinks that they define high end multimedia.

Now, I believe CPQ would be well served to buy SGI.

Any deal AAPL makes will drop them to 32, unless they're bought out or merge.
My friends' info isn't what makes me think it's a good idea. It's the fact that AAPL needs to extend their brand and their markets. SGI is still struggling, and represents a good opportunity.
Whatever made SGI a good idea 3 years ago (as somebody else posted) hasn't changed, as far as I'm concerned. SGI's new boxes are killer. If AAPL is a "box company", there's no reason why this is a bad idea.
However, SGI ALSO has a top notch consulting side that would benefit AAPL in many different ways.
AAPL's OS is coming closer and closer to being UNIX-like. SGI tends to run alot of UNIX. Their futures are merging.....
