Rene- Isn't being the #2 vendor (and growing) in Europe considered serious penetration? Without going into all the arguments, Dell could not be "overpriced" (as you say) and acheive such a rank, nor is it possible that only ex-pats are buying Dell....

Dell does not play in the low-end consumer market....however, the majority of machines sold are not low-end consumer (although that piece is growing nicely)...When these folks (purchasers) buy their SECOND computer...Dell will be considered (in most cases) for sure...

Rene,

Re > you will see a price at least 20% higher in
Europe.<

Ever hear of VAT's. That 20% goes to taxes not Dell and you are going to have to pay it in Europe whether you buy Dell, Compaq, Siemens or some white box clone. Did you get European prices from companies other than Dell?

No, if Dell want to get a part of that 30% european growth they will have to adjust their price policy for Europe quite a bit.

Rene, here's a quote from the last quarterly report:

In Europe, Dell achieved revenue growth of 68 percent, maintaining its No. 2 market position. In seven countries in the region the company's growth exceeded 85 percent. During the quarter, Dell increased its market share by more than 50 percent and again achieved the highest growth rate among leading computer systems companies in the region.

Very informative post about European pricing. Is there some structural factor that increases everyone's prices, or is it just Dell?
