Zorro,

"You really need to go back to the FCC site and check your numbers again!"

Dang, you're making me look at that FCC site alot more than I like to. :-)

I go to fcc.gov
Click on LMDS under completed auctions.
Click on FCC releases.
Click on Public Notices.
Go down to;
Public Notice DA 98-230
Title: "AUCTION OF LOCAL MULTIPOINT DISTRIBUTION SERVICE ("LMDS") LICENSES, 138 QUALIFIED BIDDERS"
Date Released: February 6, 1998

Click on Adobe Acrobat for Attachment A

It's the list of up front payments.
Shows Nextband at $50M, WNP at $100M.
Of course I suppose I wouldn't put it past the FCC to have conflicting information elsewhere on their site. I guess I'd also suppose that's it's not really that important now.

"Wrong. NextBand did not win them all... Mostly the B-block licenses"
Along the West Coast that I was discussing, Nextband did win the A-block license in LA, Portland, Sacramento, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Seattle, with very little or no competition. They did get the B-block in San Diego. They also got the B-block in San Fransisco, as WinStar took the A-block.

Zorro,
When you get a chance, could you post a link to the FCC site where you picked your numbers off of, re

"You really need to go back to the FCC site and check your numbers again!

Upfront Payments = Maximum Eligibility

WNP = $80,431,637 (NOT $100M)
NextBand = $30,231,211 (NOT $50M)"

I just did a quick addition of the bidding eligibility that WNP and Nextband each used in the final round and got;

WNP = $80,397,006
Nextband = $29,709,136

It's possible I made a mistake pushing the buttons, but it looks like it's possible that the numbers you posted may represent the bidding eligibility each used, rather than what they filed for.

If so, it could be that they each had approx $20M worth of bidding eligibility that they never touched.
