Yes Katherine, that is true. This is the reason why the Japanese chip makers are deciding to withdraw from commodity DRAM and moving into system LSIs and other logic devices. An increasingly fragmented demand picture will face the industry rather than the monolithic Wintel picture that we have known in the past. Total bit demand relating to digitalization of the consumer electronics and automobile industry will increase significantly. Certainly a simplistic Mb/PC-and-total-shipments-model to forecast global bit demand will not be as all-encompassing in the future.

Any cap ex news out of Japan lately?

I'm short cgnx, which has a large exposure to semi eq
makers in Japan, and it's been a bad idea so far. But
the economic news I've heard from Japan continues
to be weak so I can't see why I should cover.

any info appreciated..., thanks
