Once again we are left with little information.

1)How much is this costing?

2)Is it profitable?

I agree that this is a step in the right direction.

But Ampex is not a cash cow. They do not make money hand over fist. They needed to pump funds into micronet. They need to pump funds into Reiter. Cash(credit) has to be dwindling down.

I don't think that Ampex would be greatly affected by a burst in the internet bubble. It has not participated in the hyperbolic rise in market valuation that many of the .com stocks have been on. Most of these .com stocks have never turned a profit and they are trading on unrealistic future expectations(some of these companies will make it, many of them will not). In the past, Ampex has drifted down on generalized bad news in the market but, up until the last few weeks I wouldn't characterize it as volatile(it was a few years ago during the heyday of the keepered media frenzy). Most mutual funds have already gotten out of this stock and I suspect that most people holding the stock today are either patiently waiting for something to ignite a rocket under the price, or are patiently waiting to get out closer to where they got in. This stock has been painfully boring for the last 2 years during it's gradual descent from $15, recovery to ~$10,and gradual descent to $7/8. It has been sort of exciting to see the doubling of the price in the last month or so but I have no idea whether it will continue up from here or drift back down. You will need to ask some of the more knowlegable contributors to this thread

That being said, they are producing products that I am excited about vis a vis video on demand high definition television as well as video streaming over a high bandwidth web connection. I have always felt that these technologies are coming--just thought that they would have been here by now.

Steve

<<If it burst suddenly, how would Ampex's transformation fare?>>

Check AXC PE and then check the rest. IMO - AXC downside risk small - no buble in AXC at these prices - not even a good start for a bubble.
