From the press release (http://biz.yahoo.com/rf/990119/5o.html)

After the purchase is confirmed, the order is transmitted electronically directly to a supplier for shipment. In most cases, the product will ship on the same day it is ordered.

My take on it is that they will simply pass through the shipping charges, as I don't think they can legally alter them since they have no connection with the merchandise (this would be misrepresentation of some sort, no?).

Onsale is opening doors and building relationships with a lot of good companies (Yahoo, VerticalNet, HP, Compaq, Micron, Dell, etc.). Who knows, perhaps TechData will be a big player in the B2B arena. God knows there are enough VAR's out there to get use out of that!

I think what is key to this whole thing is the fact that Onsale is actually taking charge and not letting the falling margins drive them under. They have vision.

My view. I'm certainly not gonna let a DJIA nose dive force me out of ONSL. We were, afterall, up over 2 for a good portion of the day.

Scott.

I think ONSALE is doing the right thing. They still have the auction site and they have expanded their business to include items atCost. We are getting TWO COMPANIES for the price of one.

The best part about selling items on the atCost site is they do not have to take hold of the product. There is NO INVENTORY. The product is shipped directly to the buyer from the manufacturer. This is a great idea and I firmly believe that ONSALE will expand their AtCost site to include many more items other than computers. This is the tip of the iceberg. The atCost site will be expanding to include just about everything you can imagine.

“Lots of $10 fees, low cost = profit.”

True, by selling items for at cost the profit margin is very slim. But, look at the BIG picture. They will make a profit by doing this and this is an additional profit that they otherwise would not have had if they only dealt in auctioning items. The volume of traffic to this site will increase tremendously and ONSALE will benefit exponentially.

Soon ONSALE will release the B2B site and we will have THREE COMPANIES for the price of one.

Last but not least ONSALE JAPAN should start panning out soon and making a profit. FOUR COMPANIES for the price of one. How many other auction sites can compete with that.

LONG ON ONSALE!!!!!
