PFEr Alert: Mr Peabody Calls a "3-4-1"

As previously posted on December 7th, Mr. Peabody has predicted a January 1999 PFE split announcement (probability: 95%). www3.techstocks.com

Well, tomorrow could be the day. Here's the analysis:

-On January 21, 1998, the PFE Board met two days after the release of 4th Qt 1997 earnings

-PFE traditionally splits 2-1 at the 80 level to bring it back to the 40 level. PFE is currently 50% higher than this historically split level.

-A split around 150 would provide another reason to help PFE celebrate its 150th anniversary

-Other Big Pharmas have already led the way in splits including; WLA (3-1), MRK (pending 2-1) and BMY (pending 2-1).

-With the exception of Clinton Healthcare Reform scare year (1993), PFE has split in every odd-year since 1991.

-"The Company of the Year" is riding high with the strong 1998 sales performances, 9 solid months of Viagra, the pending launch of Celebrex and the strong stock performance ......as noted in today's Merrill Lynch PFE Report "A Great Way to Finish a Solid Year".

-Today's high volume PFE increase in a down market .....with a mad rush at the close:

PFE - PFIZER INC
Last Price: 119 11/16 at 17:01
Change: Up 3 13/16 (+3.29%)
High: 120 1/16
Low: 116 1/8 at 9:34
Open: 117
Previous Close: 115 7/8 on 1/19
Volume: 3,987,500
30-Day Avg. Volume: 3,108,000
Shares Outstanding: 1,297,794,000
52-Week High: 128.93
52-Week Low: 75.62
Beta: 1.01
Yield: 0.70%
P/E Ratio: 46.9
EPS: 2.55

Da Bottom Line: Based on Wayback Machine history and gut-feels (and in the spirit of Broadway Joe...J-E-T-S), Mr. Peabody boldly guarantees that the PFE Board will announce their intention to split the PFE stock at their next meeting. Moreover, the Board will request shareholders to increase the number of authorized PFE shares to enable a 3-1 split. This request will be approved at the annual meeting in April.

Moreover, here is a prediction on the short-term reaction to the announcement: PFE will jump 1-3 points before profit-taking takes over and PFE actually closes lower for the day. Long-term, PFE will repeat its excellent split-year performances:

1991: +108.6%
1995: +63.1%
1997: +79.7%

3-4-1 have PFun!
