Joe:

re: Clinton has a long history of Marxist/socialist thinking

How do you explain Clinton's generally centrist moves which many describe as co-opting of Republican positions. Just one example is his strong lead on NAFTA, which was an anti-union position? I don't think the facts support your claim.

Also, I think most political scientists generally note a great deal of difference between a Marxist and socialist. To lump them together is a generalization which muddies your statement. What you may not be taking into account is the shift in the polical spectrum to the right over the last 50 and certainly in the last 20 years.

I would agree that health care could be seen a characteristic of a socialist system. If that is true one would have to view the entire industrialized world as socialist. The US is the only industrialized nation that doesn't have a healthcare system. 40 million citizens have no coverage, that is not much of a health care system, especially when seen in the context of unemployment at 2-3%. And defense spending at 270 Billion and rising.

Joe-
It's not just Clinton & the Democrats. Wall St. is drooling over the opportunity to skim Social Security and several plans have been advanced by them and by various Republicans to get their snouts in the trough.
