Rich,

Let's just go back to my original post where I am only warning that

1) Sub-$500 boxmakers may price themselves out of business

2) They risk getting in the shotgun sights of Intel - which you correctly say that Intel is already aiming for their heads with Celeron

3) The entire PC industry is at risk of getting in a Price War that will affect everyone.

I'd like to make just one comment about this low priced PC versus Apple. Frankly, if the low or lowest price of anything was the defining element of any product's success, then we'd all, or most would, be driving Skodas, Ladas or Hyundais and not Accords, Camrys or similar cars. Same thing goes for any consumer product. From my perspective, and many of you probably agree, the Apple products are a clear distinction in the marketplace and have strong enough presence of demand for Apple to forge forward and succeed. As for high end marketplace, please don't forget most graphics people, let's leave the cad space aside, just prefer Macs and the MacOS. Period. Please show me a survey that proves otherwise.

Mr. Habib, let's face my perception is you're negative/short on Apple and your last few posts seem to support this perception. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Rich don't rule out a Super Bowl surprise - downdraft may be over

We know there is a very large holder (14%) who by assumption must be well connected with both mgmt and the Street .

Suddenly dipping to $37.50 may have been the Big Un's move to buy out some nervous AAPL "stops" at a good price .

From what I read about AAPL's non-committal to a SB advt , and more importantly from the "published" secrecy recently surrounding Cupertino , something is brewing .

It was a good move to sell at $46 . After seeing the new iMACs advertised on CNBC earlier today , I'd THINK DIFFERENT and guess that AAPL will not miss showing the PB 1 on SB Sunday to the world .

JMHO,
Jim Kary

"...By the way did you notice eMachines had the 4th best selling PC behind the iMac. Keep in mind eMachines has specifically threatened the iMac market with the heavily styled machine that is supposed to debut 1st half 99. Alot of posters on the thread tout the iMac as internet ready machines but of course you need very little computer to be an internet machine and the eMachines certainly fit that bill."

FWIW, iMac sales are picking up again: techweb.com. Cheap WINTEL junk is more of a threat to Compaq than it is to Apple.
