>>>The contest: Using the following 5 stocks as an index; AMZN, YHOO, AOL, EBAY and CMGI, predict (1) when and (2) why they will fall 40% in the space of 5 consecutive trading days. The winner will be chosen based upon their posted (to this thread only) description of the correct reason(s) why the stocks moved down 40% in 5 trading days (amended to 8) and upon the prediction of the day the start of the 40% down move occurs,. Each member gets 3 tries and numbers each try as such at the beginning of their post. They can post more than three times on the new thread, but ONLY the numbered threads get counted. <<<<

Attn: Contest judges.

The contest specifies that they drop 40% in 8 consecutive trading days and nothing about where the prices start from - closing or intraday. These stocks have dropped 40% in the last 8 consecutive trading days and hopefully this meets the requirements.

and maybe somebody even listened to me and saved some money or made some money.

Oops, I thought today was the 8th trading day (it's the seventh)

Calculating close to close prices it's 38% reduction today. I believe the Nasdaq will not find support until we hit the uptrendline which is 50 points below, so it's still possible on a close to close basis.

Dear AG: Don't forget my entry:

Message 7329143

The Blowoff (as a whole) started on Tuesday, because of Greenspan and the increased "margin restrictions."

I nailed AMZN and EBAY peak to trough interday, not that anybody cares...I'll call it a moral victory if nothing else. Do we have a winner?

Auric,

If you amended it to 8 trading days, then as of yesterday, 1/21/99,
I should have won. The peak was on the 11th, and I predicted the decline to start on the 12th. I said look for 100 pts. up days, and that happened on the 11th. I thought it was only 4 trading days and I lost out on Tuesday.
