Most likely, historians will regard Reagan domestically as the president who drove up the deficit and national debt to unparalleled levels with enormous military spending and who implemented a reactionary social agenda. His administration will also be remembered for unprecedented thievery and corruption. Clinton will be remembered as an unscrupulous cad. But Reagan and his buddies will be recalled as out and out crooks who looted the nation.

Why will he be remembered so ungenerously? Because lefties are the idealistic suckers who can stand the low wages and crappy work politics of academia and delve into subjects like history Rightwingers generally want to make money, so they go into law school, get their MBAs or become doctors and shy away from the universities. Sure, some conservatives will emerge who will write sympathetic histories of the Reagan years. They will be labelled as outcasts and kooks by the established academics. Just watch. :-)
