I think I agree with you. Except that not even love can be enough of a reason for people in real extremis to go on living. I suspect that their may be pain so intense- both mental and physical- that death is the preferred alternative. But then I don't think of death as a very awful thing like most Americans. I think it is fascinating- though I do not wish to be rushed to it either, unless it is by my own decision.
