Impeachment is about the Constitution and the law, not public opinion and "the popular arts" -which, sadly enough, is all the Lib.s are capable of defending themselves with. "Bribery, treason or other high crimes or misdameanors" is a legal standard, not a popularity contest. Liberals' misrepresentation of the law, the Constitution and the political process to serve their own ends is the real extremism of the day. This is currently realized by a large portion of Americans and will be remembered both in 2000 and in the recordings of history.

Since Day 1 you liberals have been treating this entire issue as if it would just go away with so much indignation and shrieking. Quite to the contrary, history and "the whole world is watching". Politics is politics but the law is immortal.

The Democrats defended lying, the Republicans defended the Law.

Robert: It was little, threatened and self-interested minds like yours that made it possible for the Soviet Union and The People's Republic of China to engage in the wholesale slaughter of the Intelligentsia, or dissidents, or whatever the particular term to describe those who are intelligent and observant enough to recognize how the government in question was abusing the power they had been granted and articulate enough to explain it to others. You have still failed to grasp that Bill Clinton has been charged with the commission of what would, in a normal court of law, be a felony (well, two of them, actually) and for that reason, had to be impeached, as impeachment is simply the political equivalent of an indictment. And by the way, impeachment is the province of the House. The phrase "Senate impeachment" is meaningless gibberish. The Senate is now entertaining the question of the removal of said President, as the Constitution requires them to. The result of that process is still very much up in the air. But in order to protect us from the abuse of power by a sitting President this process has to happen. Blaming the Republicans for Bill Clinton's situation is ludicrous and dangerous. If he had simply told the truth from the beginning, none of this could have happened. It is entirely his own fault. Unless you actually believe that some people should, by dint of their position, be above the law. There are such systems. As a matter of fact, the United States came into being when they rebelled against one of them in order to set up this government under which "all men are created equal."

Ahh, hell. I already know your mind is closed. If you had your way about it Bill would've never been charged in the first place, and we would have a nation in which the President could willfully and with no sanction give false and misleading testimony in an attempt to deny a citizen their right to a fair trial and the door would be opened for all manner of abuses by our political leaders. But that would be okay with you, because you could simply continue your misguided puppet on a string life without the need for any heavy thinking. And it would be okay with them because they would recognize that you are simply a useful sheep, and will continue to parrot the official line and attack those of us who are willing to stick our necks out for justice.

Tyrants always ride in on the backs of misguided fools.

The Republicans are not saying public opinion does not count. They are saying that they are obligated to follow the law. Does the public want perjury and obstruction of justice to be non-crimes now? If so, I believe we need to apply the law equally and all who have been convicted of these crimes should be released and their records expunged. Also, are you saying that in the future, the rule of law should not apply and perjury or obstruction of justice should not be prosecuted. That will certainly tear up our justice system. How in the world can we effectively truth find when the freedom to lie or obstruct justice is all A-OK now? This will certainly be a fine precedent for future charges against individuals for obstruction or perjury. Made by our leader, the democrats best possible example of decorum and integrity, our President, Bill Clinton. The tragedy is that wagging the dog very possibly influenced our timely (just before Ramadan) attack on Iraq and our timely, (the day after flying off on vacation) bombings in Afghanistan and Chad. What are a few lives to make a political statement and positioning oneself as presidential?
