Believe me, within the 24 network you don't go slow. Hit the net and it's no different than
anywhere else, though I've actually hit 500KB/s (yes, capital B) from non-@Home servers.


Are you sure? And have you seen any sustained access at that rate? I have had high-speed Internet access from work for over a year and a half and I don't remember seeing 500KB/s access from any site. The best I usually get is a short-term sustained rate of 150KB/s. Most servers are much less.

I'll have to get myself on an ATHM segment someday so I can play around looking at their architecture. They are behaving in a fairly xenophobic fashion right now ...

Sounds like the speeds are pretty impressive within their subnet.
