At the risk of throwing things hopelessly off topic: 1.) While carrots are less allergenic than many foods, they are by no means non-allergenic. Raw carrots are more allergenic than cooked. Check out hallpublications.com for a chart showing where carrots fit in the food allergy pyramid. 2.) There was a huge thread on Mel Blanc's carrot allergy in the newsgroups last month. Here's a link to the thread:dejanews.com (click on the "Thread" tab to see more) Here's an excerpt from a deeper message: ====================================== Mel Blanc actor, voice specialist Born: 5/30/08, in San Francisco, California. Died: 7/10/89, in Los Angeles, California, of heart disease and emphysema. Was allergic to carrots. Originally a musician, he entered radio acting in 1933 and later gained fame as the voice of hundreds of popular and beloved animated cartoon characters, including Bugs Bunny, Woody Woodpecker, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety Pie, Sylvester, and others. He also provided voices in the feature films Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988) and Jetsons: The Movie(1990).After a near-fatal auto accident in 1961, Blanc did his cartoon voices, including the first 65 episodes of "The Flintstones," flat on his back, with the microphone hanging over his bed. Although allergic to carrots, while doing the voice of Bugs Bunny, he use them for sound effects till he discovered that a potato made a better sound for recording. Also he didn't have to stop recording to spit the potato out, and was quoted as saying he enjoyed the taste after awhile. <Long filmography deleted> ====================================== Unfortunately, the poster didn't include the source for this information ("Who's who"?). Another post quoted Blanc as saying the carrots "irritated my vocal cords." 3.) Since this is jokes/humor thread, not a discussion thread, this is the last I will post on this topic. Feel free to send me private mail to discuss further. Chipcoolhistory.com
