I don't believe the Yahoo buyout rumor. However, MSFT has a lot of
cash. What are they going to do with it? IMHO, they are waiting for
the right opportunity to buy one of those search engines. An internet
stock crash---would make MSFT very aggressive in their plans.
Apart from Yahoo, are any other internet stocks even worth acquiring
considering they already have a good portal, MSN?

I think some sort of strategic deal is in the works, probably with
AT&T once the DOJ approves its TCI cable takeover. It does not
necessarily involve selling any internet properties to AT&T. AT&T
could not acquire an internet portal considering the high valuations.
AT&T internet content is not very good---therefore, doing
a joint venture with MSN providing content (possibly MSN internet
access being turned over to AT&T at the same time) is conceivable.

MSFT buyout of YHOO rumor.

That is the biggest pile of garbage I've read on this thread. You actually think intelligent executives at MSFT consider a company with an office building and a bunch of PC's worth buying for that price.

All someone needs to do is create a better web portal, and with the value of Yahoo, and fickle PC users, they could hire one hundred thousand people for a long time to create it. MSFT never gets it right on the first or second try, but eventually they do it.

Take Frontpage. They bought it from a bunchof kids at Vremeer (?) for 'only' 100 million and have made a billion on it already in a few years. How could you possibly make moeny from a 300 billion investment in Yahoo. You can't. EVERYONE knows that. It's crazy that you would even WISH FOR THIS. The stock would TANK, and I would be out in a second.

MSFT is for real. YAHOO is a joke of an investment. Laughing all the way to the bank maybe for some, but I couldn't sleep with that over my head. Anyone who holds Yahoo after seeing people starting to bail is a gambler. I may be proved wrong again on that stock as I almost shorted it twice over the course of the last 6 months. (gulp!) Glad I didn't.

Adam,

Not gonna hapen. MSFT doesn't need Yahoo, which
is still valued at 35 Billion. Much more likely that
MSFT will buy a telecomm. co., esp. a WIRELESS telecomm.
co.
