More on the subject of buying on the Net from dell - FIRST off let me say I LOVE Dell's web site. Great response time - no stupid FRAMES!! Wake up dogway and get rid of the frames - I kept losing my configuration options when I hit back - and they don't provide a back button either.

Now the bad stuff - I bought a dogway. Haven't been in Dell long enough not be budget conscious so I couldn't help myself from saving about a hundred bucks. I bought a 400 Celeron which with comparable base config was already about 50 bucks more from Dell. Then I went to 128 MB RAM (from 64) cost 128 from Gateway - 137 from Dell. I already have a 17" NEC top of the line monitor and just wanted a 15" for a spare - Gateay knocked off 130 bucks - DELL less than 80. Next are the options - Dell does not offer many options. I know it helps the bottom line but the knowledgeable consumer can be turned off. I DO NOT want a logitech mouse - Gateway offers the MS Intellimouse (mucho better) Dogway offers many more options for video cards including 3DFX cards. I'll admit that I will be watching Gateway much more closely especially after the last quarter. I own no Gateway - LOADS of DELL so don't get me wrong. I think Dell still has the high end covered. But now that Intel is serious about the low end and has come out with some decent chips for that space (Celeron 366/400) DELL needs to pay more attention here. My order was for 1700 bucks so were not talking sub 1K.
