OFF TOPIC EMERALDS
It is interesting you mentioned emeralds because a year ago a prospector in the mackenzie Mountains near Cantung discovered some Beryl Crystals which are green enough to be emeralds. For those of you not familiar with emeralds they are green beryl crystals. They form little six sided flat topped crystals (look like little columns). They can be more valueable then diamonds. Most gem quality emeralds come from a deposit in Columbia which has been mined since the 1600s.There are some in russia and madagascar as well. Now the picadillos of the gem trade. To be an emerald you have to have the right colour green. If not the same crystal is called Aquamarine, morganite, rose beryl, golden beryl. These to are used as gems but don't fetch quite the same price.
People have found and even mined small deposite of beryl in the US and Canada but I believe the find in mAckenzie is the first Emerald discovery in NA.
So emerald could be the next North American Gem Stone people rush out to look for because they can be more valuable then diamonds.
There is no reason why NA shouldnt have most of the gem stones. They are just a little harder to find because they occur in hard rock rather then weathered rock or placer.
